The Great Awakening – Flat Earth
This is a subject that I find very interesting lately, and not for the reasons you think, but because I think it shows signs of having enormous potential for waking people up, it is the present Flat Earth movement. Whether the earth is flat or round is irrelevant for this article, whether the people investigating it are as educated or more so than our renowned scientists, NASA etc is also irrelevant. I will not discuss any of the flat earth theories here, that is not the purpose of this article, the point is to observe how people react when presented with new information. I’ll leave a few introductory links at the bottom for anyone who is curious.
A number of Flat Earth You Tube videos approaching 500,000 views at time of writing.
Flat Earth – A Growing Movement
Many of the clips on You-Tube are getting hundreds of thousands of hits, and heated debate in the comments sections. I’ve observed many conspiracies, some I was late to discover, but others I’ve watched unfold, none have spread as quickly and with as much interest as the Flat Earth theory. What I also find new to this conspiracy is that many believing the earth to be flat, or merely questioning it, are seeking out practical experiments that they can carry out themselves, to test the official measurements of the earth. They’re taking action, rather than merely believing some guy on the interwebs, or some guy in a classroom or on the Discovery Channel.
Back in April a friend mentioned the Flat Earth movement to me, it didn’t really interest me, sounded ridiculous. Then in May Jeff Berwick of Anarchast interviewed Eric Dubay on the subject. I’ve listened to many of Berwick’s podcasts and learned a lot about free markets, what anarchy actually means, and self ownership, so I gave it a listen, and here we are.
Anarchast : The Flat Earth Conspiracy
Flat Earth – Debate
My most fascinating observations around the Flat Earth theory:
- People are asking questions: Supporting any group without investigation is pointless, to follow the anarchists because it seems popular or the flat earthers because its flavour of the month. At least the former will result in peaceful people, although peaceful sheep in some respect. We all do it, we are conditioned to move with the herd, so its nothing to feel bad or embarrassed about. These movements, like the conspiracy movement is forcing people to investigate for themselves. Even if they find warped evidence, or arrive at incorrect conclusions, I still think the point is people are asking questions, and I would imagine over time their skills of analysis and research would greatly improve. One learns nothing by simply being spoon fed information, be it what the best political system is or the shape of the earth, be it from the next conspiracy guru or the mainstream media. I yearn for a generation who instinctively delve into these subjects for themselves and seek out the truth, if they can find it.
[pullquote align=”right”] The conspiracy side seem better researched than the round earthers.
[/pullquote]
- Blind defence of the globe model: You may believe the earth is round, but 99.99% of people who read this will not be able to prove it’s round. They can refer to NASA or pictures in school books but do not personally have the skills to prove we live on a globe. This reminds me of the statist adamant that we need government because “who’ll build the roads??”, they have no awareness of economics or the damage political systems are doing within society, it’s all they know, “its’ better than the alternative!”. Why do we defend an idea or strangers we have no direct investment in? We are terrified of having our safe comfortable view of the world challenged. I’ve watched many debates on Twitter, those who don’t get angry are the ones who have done their research and have information to hand, those that do get angry and resort to insults are the ones who have sided with an idea they ‘feel’ suits them best, but have no concrete evidence to support it. They get angry because on some level they realise they have adopted a view with no foundation. Their view may still indeed be more workable than the other party, but without knowledge they cannot prove this. What’s my point here? Unlike other conspiracies this is the first time that I notice the conspiracy side, the flat earthers calmer and better researched by far, than the round earthers.
We need thinkers, we need readers and researchers.
- “Its a distraction from the real important issues” – surely that is a matter for each individual to decide. I have written before my distaste for politics and mainstream “news”, yet many believe being “up to date” on this endless cycle of spin and lies is actually important, I did too at one time. I suppose what people are investigating I deem less important, and I find more crucial that people are actually investigating.
- Most importantly: I also see these Flat Earthers as potentially an early indication of who are coming of age on this planet ehhhhh or plane. What will the next conspiracy or global issue be? Will this movement grow further? Will it be a force to be reckoned with? Will the next generation be awake enough to realise that they are responsible for their own lives, their money, their health and most crucially their education? The days of blaming the state and demanding it fix them may be coming to a close.
A critical thinking population will analyse and assess every subject thrown at it, that may mean subjects you consider wacky and a waste of time, it may also mean subjects you may consider of the utmost importance. Put the subject of the flat earth to one side for a moment, we need thinkers, we need readers and researchers. We need people who are not afraid to be ridiculed, to stand out from the mob. Some of you are reading this thinking “its just ridiculous wasting time thinking the earth is flat”, each to his own, personally I think it utterly ridiculous believing democracy is in any way beneficial to society, yet tens of millions will line up and vote. The mob are easily steered by emotive theatrical politics, the mob watch shit television and rolling news, the mob elect the men and women who forcibly take your tax money and spend it on wars. If we have a growing movement of people asking questions there is a strong possibility they will steer those thinking minds towards how governments conduct themselves in the future, or better yet, as a more evolved awakened people see it for what it truly is, an unnecessary violent force that inhibits the evolution of thinking man, and do away with the system altogether.

Wise words indeed,I’m nearing wot I seek.thanks mate
Thank you.
Very interesting. Thank you!
Thank you.
Thanks for such a objective view point. It’s definietly a very interesting subject that seems to be gaining alot of momentum quickly. I came across it recently and as always there are many opinions for all sides. As you mentioned, what is different about this topic is that if someone wants to find out if there is any merit to the Flat Earth all they need to do is get out there and do some real world investigation. Thanks again.
Thank you very much.
You will have to stop using any equator in your model, the definition being…
equator |ɪˈkweɪtə|
noun
a line notionally drawn on the earth equidistant from the poles, dividing the earth into northern and southern hemispheres and constituting the parallel of latitude 0°.
I only see one pole being labelled N (north) and therefore you cannot have an equidistant line existing between two poles if only one pole exists.
You’ve missed the point of the whole article.
You’re right… i missed the point of the article to create a faux blog to drive traffic and search bots to the links above… observe that reaction
You’ve missed the point of the whole article. x2
As the Author said… they come unprepared
Great article
Thanks for the read and comment.
Question the globe, find out who your real friends are.
Thank you for this thoughtful article!
Unfortunately Eric Dubay has a problem with math. His proof #15 in 200 proofs the earth is not a spinning globe has the math wrong. It has been brought to his attention but he refuses to correct it. Now why follow someone who is being as deceitful as others?
Oh and the 1926 Michelson-Gale-Pearson experiment showed the earth rotates.
Thank you for your comment. Although you have given two points, you yourself have indicted Dubay has given “200 proofs”.
Aside from that the purpose of this post was not to convince anyone the earth is either round or flat. The very first paragraph covers this.
Once again… not prepared
“It is interesting to note that the speed of light in a Sagnac interferometer is only constant with respect to the laboratory frame (on the earth) if its z-axis is pointing E-W and thereby the sensitive axis is perpendicular to all motion. In all other orientations, the device is sensitive to the diurnal rotation of the earth to some degree, and it is even sensitive to the rotation of the earth around the sun, an effect 365 times smaller. In this way the Michelson-Gale experiment, and Sagnac interferometers in general, give a contradictory result in terms of light speed…”
I see so many people putting all their energy into the whole flat earth thing , for what ? We’ve been lied to for centuries , about so many different issues. We all know this !. What about putting our energies into healing the flat/round earth instead of pointless arguments. REALLY though…..
Kindly update the eric dubay youtube link he has a new channel.
